PD - Early Years
We provide advice to early years settings for individual children with severe and/or complex physical disability and/or medical needs to support their inclusion and development. With the youngest children we work closely with families, early years settings, Portage workers, SENIF practitioners, Health colleagues and other early years specialist teachers to ensure the best outcomes for the children. Some of the activities we might be involved with include:
- Supporting staff with assessments and tracking progress
- Helping with writing personalised learning plans (PLPs), Special Educational Needs Inclusion Fund(SENIF) applications and, if necessary, advice for Education and Health Care plans (EHCp)
- Help with differentiation and alternative ways to access the early years curriculum
- Writing individual and personal health care plans to take account of medical needs; including daily therapy activities
- Supporting practitioners on how to include therapy targets into early years activities where possible
Helping to write risk assessments for environmental access and moving and handling - on-line training to support settings with writing health care plans and risk assessments is available here.
- Supporting the writing of personalised emergency evacuation plans (PEEP) for fire and lock-down
- Liaising with Health colleagues and referring on where necessary, eg for further assessment where children or young people require access to specialist equipment for communication (KMCAT referral)
- We offer training in a number of areas. The core training offer is available every year and details can be found via the district base schools website and www.stlsvalence.com
- We regularly attend Specialist Equipment Panels with our colleagues from Health and the Disabled Children’s Team.
- We can support families in identifying schools which already have access and care facilities in place to meet their child's needs
